These sun loving plants originate from the mediterranean, and marjoram was considered a symbol of happiness by the Greeks and Romans. Lemon scented thyme is more drought tolerant, a great habitat plant for bees and butterflies and has many uses as a medicinal plant.

A lot of our Mediterranean herbs are really easy to propagate. So, it’s a wonderful way for more free plants. Ones that have a fibrous root system like this and many stems as you can see make it really easy. So, this is lemon time which is a very fragrant plant. I wish we had smellvision. And it’s used as a culinary herb, but as well it’s planted among pavers as well in gardens because it has that weeping habit. And so when it’s walked on, it releases that lovely aroma. Lemon time is nice and easy to propagate because it sends out little runners as do a lot of the plants. And on the outside, the little runners send down tiny roots. So, this is one that I’m just going to dig up and put in some repaired potting mix. So, I’ll just take a bit of soil with it. Wonderful. So, I’ve got some potting mix in here that’s already dampened, ready to go. And I’m going to top with a bit of seed basil mix. It’s a little expensive, but with the potty mix underneath that just saves a a little cost cutting exercise. And over here is another herb, margarm, which again is nice and easy. So you can see the leaders there and they’re developing their own root system. So, as the plant grows, it tends to spread out. And I’ve just dug down with the spade and just lifted two of the outside ones off the main clump. So, sometimes you might need to vertically chop down with the spade. Um, I don’t like hurting the plants, but um, yes, I’ve got two on the outside. And you can see that it’s a a large plant, a larger plant than the um than the margarm. And uh sorry, than the lemon time. Margarm is a great herb to have in the kitchen as well. And it’s wonderful chopped up on grilled tomatoes. So there you go. Food for thought. Let’s get cracking. It’s spring.
