I shared my new tree and ugly garden in June and this is what it looks like today. Link to original in comments

I threw down Rudbeckia Hirta seed in the bare dirt around the tree after planting my plugs to cover ground and make it prettier for my grumpy adjoining neighbors. I find it easy to pull after it dies back as it has incredibly shallow roots. I have planted it under new trees in the past and it hasn’t seemed to harm or set them back.

You can see Little Bluestem in the front and back and on the front left corner is Fox Sedge. Also included is Smooth Penstemon, Prairie Onion, Prairie Dropseed, Showy Goldenrod, Heath Aster, and Culver’s Root, which bloomed this year already. I chose mostly Oak Savanna plants as my plan is to mimic the area’s ecology before farming/construction.

I will expand the garden as time goes by but am always nervous about planting under mature oaks and wanted to beat the root expansion.

Your efforts have created a lovely oasis for local wildlife. Enjoy every fluttering wing and furry tail. Many people don’t realize how important it is to mix in native grasses with their blooms. Great work.
