Hello all,

Quick update on a full lawn reno i started in early September. Spent close to two weeks on tilling, raking, sifting, disposing of old material. Brought in 30yards of topsoil that i mixed and spread throughout. Rolled and tamped soil. Irrigation was installed on the 23rd and hydroseed was put down on the 25th. Very happy with the result.

The grass is now over 4in throughout. Quick google search says its okay to mow but should I before the first frost? Or leave it long for the winter.

Any advice for what i should put down in the spring is appreciated (was told it was too late in the season for tenacity or similar preventative product). I know sifting that dirt may have allowed some of the seeds of old weeds to survive, but it was good soil and seemed like a waste to dispose of it. No sign of crabgrass or any weeds really yet.

  1. Cut now, gradually go down to 2” for the winter

Keep mowing regularly, it will help establishing the grass. Make sure to bag the clippings if possible and take gentle turns.
