Gardeners’ World star Adam Frost has revealed his life was “unravelling” as he made an honest health admission recently.

Initially taking an interest in gardening when he was just a child, his love of horticulture continued to grow as he got older.

His first major break in the industry came when he was 21, after he was given a role by the late gardening enthusiast and TV presenter Geoff Hamilton.

In the years since, he has continued to see his career go from strength to strength, going on to design and create his own gardens at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show.

However, it was after landing a presenting role on the BBC’s Gardeners’ World in 2016 that he became a household name.

Amid his huge career success over the years, he hasn’t shied away from sharing his struggles with his mental health.

In a recent interview with Rutland Pride magazine, Adam reflected on when he discovered he had Covid back in 2021.

Sharing how the time on his own had made him feel disconnected, he elaborated: “I started to feel disconnected, as if my life was unravelling. I spent a lot of time looking out of the window at the vast garden I’d created, and the only thing that comforted me was music.”

And in a chat with Gardeners’ Corner earlier this year, Adam offered further insight into how his mental health worsened after being “locked up in a room with Covid”: “In September 2021 I ended up locked up in a room with Covid and out of that, 10 days later, I was sat in front of a psychiatrist and they said you’ve got burnout and depression. Which is a surprise because I only went in the room with Covid.”

After being told by experts that he was suffering from depression and burnout, he explained how the conditions were likely brought on by issues in his earlier life, saying his “difficult past” had “caught up with him”.

In this week’s edition of Gardeners’ World, we’ll see Adam join fellow gardening enthusiasts Joe Swift, Arit Anderson, Frances Tophill, and Jamie Butterworth as they look forward to and prepare for a new flower show at RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) Wentworth Woodhouse in South Yorkshire.

Gardeners’ World is set to return later this evening (July 17) on BBC Two at 8 p.m.
