Hey Aroid enthusiasts! Quick update on the hybrid seeds from my Pallidiflorum 'Super Narrow' crossed with my giant, multi-foot-long Pallidiflorum (the one some of you might remember!).

The babies are thriving! They are all healthy and robust, with every plant now proudly displaying its third leaf.

Selection and Documentation:

I've started the selection process and given specific names to the seedlings that show the most promise (F1 A, F1 B, etc., visible on the tags). I'm keeping a detailed table to track the history of these selections, which will be crucial for any future breeding projects.

Interesting Discovery on the Parents:

While the seedlings are exciting, I've noticed something interesting about the parents' flowers:

  • The 'Super Narrow' form's bloom has a distinct, rather unpleasant smell, a specific shape, and is upright.
  • The Giant Pallidiflorum has flowers that are morphologically different, have a more floral, pleasant scent, and point downward (pendant).

This difference in smell, shape, and orientation suggests that one of these parent plants may not be Anthurium pallidiflorum or may be a distinct species entirely.

Swipe to see the happy seedlings and the massive parent plant!

Has anyone else noticed significant differences in their Anthurium pallidiflorum varieties, especially regarding the scent and bloom orientation?

Also, as I plan my next steps, what kind of traits would the community like to see me aim for in future breeding goals?

The pallidiflorum I have seems to put out upright inflorescence. Interesting to know theirs a few varieties.
