It’s already so much quieter at night here in southern New England. It makes me sad. All the animals and bugs and plants go away and we’re the exotic tropical apes who just haaaad to adapt.
That’s why I always prefer spring to fall. Watching the world wake up again is what keeps me going for the rest of the year. It’s magical.

We have not seen this many bumblebees 🐝 in our yard ever. The secret sauce was for me to move 5 domestic honeybee hives from my .3 acre yard to a friend with 50 acres and 50 hives. Every season since then has witnessed the return of the bumblers and clouds of native pollinators. I like raw honey a lot, but I like a functional ecosystem more. My bees are having a great time with their buddies about 5 miles away. The competition was just too much… the honeybees didn’t attack the native pollinators, there simply was not much left after 25,000 honeybees had hit the local convenience store.
One of the bees we saw was a non-native Sculptured Resin Bee, a bee battleship with good manners. We were stunned by diversity of species, but even more by the rapid recovery of the local bee species. That’s our experience in any case.
