I finally started my little cactus garden. Picked up these guys from a local nursery — one bridgesii and one pachanoi (at least that’s what I was told). Hoping to grab a peruvianus soon to round out the trio.

I’ve got them in about a 70/30 organic to inorganic mix — Miracle-Gro cactus/palm/citrus mix, perlite, desert sand, a bit of horticultural charcoal, and some worm castings. Right now I’m slowly acclimating them to full afternoon sun.

Couple newbie questions if anyone’s got a sec:

Can anyone ID these a little more specifically? (Always curious about the lineage on these.)

The bridgesii has multiple segments — should I leave them be or separate one to start another plant?

Should I give it any support, or just let it do its thing?

The pachanoi pup looks like it’s growing in kind of a weird formation — should I be worried, or just see how it develops?

The bridgesii might be showing a bit of stretching… early etiolation maybe? Anything I should tweak?

Thanks in advance for any advice — super excited to finally get into this properly. I’ve been reading posts here for a while and figured it was time to actually join in.

Doesn’t look etiolated to me. They look great. It is *very* rare to find a Bridg like this at a nursery, let alone one you can buy. I’m honestly wondering if they sold you something they weren’t supposed to sell 🤔 it’s worth a couple hundred bucks. Awesome find. To me it looks like ss02 but I’m probably wrong.

The pach looks like PC, the “predominant cultivar.” Nothing wrong with that. It’s just the most common variety. It’s that way for a reason, because it’s hardy and good looking.
