What am I looking at here? Lol I’m so confused

  2. Altruistic-Panic-937

God speed my friend. Nice water supply..

  3. PancakeParthenon

I saw that post a year or so back or someone who went on vacation and did this. Update us with results! Seemed to work well last time I saw it.

How long you gonna be gone, a month? Most plants will be more than fine for a week+ with just a hefty watering the day before you leave. Heck most can even go 2 weeks pretty easily, though some will start to look a little rough.

I’ve tried this! I think only one plant didn’t survive and it was probably because of user error. Good luck!

That setup is going to flood them. The water level should be just below the bottom of the plants, not above. It’s supposed to wick upwards not down- this allows the plant to take in only as much water as they are actively using. Wicking down will empty all that water into their pots quickly. They’d be better off just left alone!

I suggest to add plenty of towels under them in case any of them flood, protect the floor just in case. We did this but placed them inside bigger storage containers

Hey I did this when I went on vacation – you need to lower the source of the water. The strands will start dripping soon like this, and overwater the plants (I made the same mistake – you can check my profile).

I did this! Went away for 20+ days and it worked

Take my energy! Make it work!

Needs to be reversed. Plants higher than water source.

It worked well for me when I went on vacation. My plants were absolutely happier than when I am home😒

I regularly leave mine for a month at a time…. Just let them soak and drink. Then keep the heat off.. some will be dramatic when you get back.. but they will all live

Now this makes me want to conduct a controlled experiment like this. I can just be home and monitor it over time and see how it goes!

I did this when I was on vacation for 2 weeks, and it worked amazing!! I had few plants across different pots of water with connecting strings. After coming back from vacation, some still had water while some were dry. Overall, worked great! All plants made it!

  16. Easy_Perspective_835

I would’ve done more pots, shorter wicks

I did this as a trial run before a vacation. Had a very tough time getting it to work right as my different pot sizes either got too much water or not enough. I ended up paying my nephew to come by and water my plants. They were outside, covered, but in the AZ heat. My indoor plants I gave a nice watering and told them to be good and stay alive!

I did similar a few years ago except I used Mason jars with screw-top lids and a hole drilled in each lid for the string to pass through but avoid evaporation. I was gone a month and it worked. No plant casualties. The cats were boarded at a relatives.

Did anyone else think these were all aerial roots for a second l😂👍

  20. RedsDelights

Looks like a scene from the Matrix, lil robot plants being fed from their mother ship … god speed!

  21. RiggityRiggityReckt

O no honey!! I did this, and it *way* over watered my plants!! Like water *everywhere* over watered! You’re much better off getting some water bulbs or stakes. I wish you nothing but luck though!!

  22. photogangsta

How long are you going for? I travel for weeks at a time and haven’t even had to do this to any of my plants.

  23. okzebra12

I damaged my apartment floor pretty badly doing this 😞 It seemed fine for a couple days (I set it up before leaving to test it out), but the water still overflowed at some point while I was away.

The next time I went away I just put all my plants into clear plastic garbage bags so they wouldn’t dry out, which worked much better.

  24. yAyeetgonnadelete

I don’t lurk much on here, but gotta admit, it’s my first time seeing plants hooked to a plant IV drip.

  25. Loud-Mouthbreathing

So nice of the bucket to to walk your plants for you

  26. CraftyProcrstntr

My fear is that my calathea would thrive in this setting and as soon as I come back and move it’d die lol
