I was gifted some cactus dahlia tubers earlier this year and didn’t plant them until quite late. Most of them have had a big growth spurt and now some lovely blooms. They are sooo pretty!
Some are in pots, others just in the ground – do I need to pull them up once they’ve flowered? I’m in Yorkshire.

Hi, it will depend on two factors. Water and temperature. If the soil stays dry and doesn’t get waterlogged and it stays about 0c . However in North UK we are not there yet and you can store them in shoe boxes with lots of warm gritty perlite mix. They have to breath but not dry out too much.
I’m a fan of leaving stuff in if you can but dahlias are delicate and I’d lift them before first ground frost in early November. Other Gardeners in your area may have other methods! If leaving in they mustn’t get waterlogged or get subject to hard frost. ( thick mulching assists this) If you were in the South we are getting to the stage where some quite tropical plants will now survive! For example Grape vines have always been hardy but now parts of the UK are probably providing the best climate for growing grapes. We could make better sparkling whites than our wonderful neighbours!!🇫🇷 I hope you enjoy your winter gardening and keep up the good work!!!
Why not risk leaving in one or two and mulching to see what happens? It might be a dry winter and there is your opportunity.!
Beautiful textures and layers.
Lovely job.
Its about their best time of Year-hopefully 🙏

They’re lovely! Mine got frostbitten in Sept and I had to pull them all up, some hadn’t even had the chance to flower yet 🫤
