Hi, I’m new to houseplant ownership and am trying to keep this fiddle leaf fig alive and well. Today I noticed this new plant (or fungus?) growing out of the side hole of my planter toward the light coming from the window. I’m curious as to what it is, and if I need to do anything about it.

Also, I would appreciate any other advice from the experts on here based on the pics of my FLF. I think I was severely under-watering it previously, because of the fear of root rot. However I came back from vacation recently and several of the bottom leaves were crispy, discolored, and had fallen off. The remaining leaves were very droopy. I watered it for several days consecutively, letting the soil reabsorb excess water from the dish below, and the leaves have since regained some turgidity. Thanks!

Just a mushroom, their spores are often in the soil. While not inherently bad, as fungi help make nutrients in the soil more bioavailable to plants by breaking them down, they can also be an indicator that the soil is staying moist for too long since fungi require lots of moisture to produce a fruiting body

ETA – don’t water any houseplant daily. Just let the plant sit in the bathtub or a deep saucer with extra water for 30 or so minutes to better absorb water. Watering daily would certainly be overwatering and doesn’t fix underwatering

Looks like a mushroom,it happens to me a lot, they hitch rides in the soil. I don’t think 🤔 it’s harmful for the plants. Mine are doing great 😃. I just pull them out.
