Hi guys. Long time lurker and first time posting here. Thanks to this sub I've realised the importance of girdling roots.
Bought this fig tree from the nursery. It was in a pot of course. Had major trouble trying to find the root flare. I think I found it, at the bottom of the trunk?? Had to perform surgery on it to remove all the girdling roots. Will my tree survive with this much roots removed? Thanks.
Note: I'm in Australia so we're coming into spring.

Fig trees are almost impossible to kill in my experience and are super easy to take hardwood cuttings from – they will often self-layer themselves if a low hanging branch is in contact with soil. They are always propagated by cuttings, not seed, so don’t have the same anatomy as a seed-grown plant and the idea of ‘root flare’ is less relevent as there is no hypocotyl.
The tree will readily make adventitious roots from along the trunk however deep you plant it, and unless it gets extremely droughted, it will be fine and rapidly make new roots.
