Chunky aroid mix and just put it into soil. They take time to root before growing leaves. The bottom is fine to plant as is.

News Flash: Cats shouldn’t be covered. How the heck did you get a cat stuck on the bottom of your plant in the first place. Very rude!

Only the roots under the soil line & everything green above the soil. Use a chopstick laid across the rim of the pot to keep the green part above the soil until the roots get more established.
Use a substrate that’s 1/3 soil, 1/3 perlite, and 1/3 orchid bark. Get the three ingredients and mix them together yourself. Looks like this.
