This giant pine tree in our front yard has dropped almost all its needles over the past month… I thought at first it was just seasonally shedding, but now I’m concerned. Also noticed some sawdust at the base of the tree. Arborists am I cooked? Is this beetles? Termites?
What’s the next step here?

Not an arborist but I’d say it’s dead.

Next step is removal
More than likely beetle kill. Contact NC forestry for advice, especially for protection of your other pine trees. A certified arborist can pinpoint what killed this tree and how to proceed with protecting the other trees. Don’t just get any “tree guy“ with a chainsaw. You could also read up on the pine beetle infestations that are affecting some properties.
☝️I validate the bark beetle
Pine tree dead issue. See how the bark is sloughing off? That’s dead..
Pining for the fjords.
