I stripped the remaining weeds and grass, tilled with not enough amendments, then raked. I used Ace Hardware High Traffic Mixed Sun or Shade and it started growing within a few weeks.
At the beginning, I did spend some time removing bittercress, chickweed, and wild carrot by hand. Now it’s only an occasional dandelion and clover I see and remove during weekly mowing.
When I was getting ready for the first cut, my old gas mower needed work, so I bought a barely used Ryobi 40 V mower for $100. I mow almost at max deck height to suppress weeds.
It’s durable and can withstand our golden retriever’s zoomies.

do you get alota grass clippings all over the place with your ryobi mower? i am getting a ton that go everywhere but inside the bag.
