Would appreciate some advice on ID and what to do about removing it, as I've no idea if it's damaging the lawn or even how it's grown there ?

Are you trying to identify a fungus? If so, /r/mycology may be of more help. Fungi aren’t plants — they have their own kingdom just like animals and bacteria.

Not sure what type of mushroom but this is normal for healthy soil, especially near what appears to be wetland. No need to do anything.

    “A mushroom type plant”

    That’s a mushroom

  4. AllyStar17

It’s a good sign, it means your lawn is healthy. They’ll be gone in a week or two

    They’re mushrooms!

Mushrooms aren’t actually plants, but their own thing (technically theyre more related to humans than plants!)

The mod that posted about r/mycology is right, if you want specifics as to what species this is, you’ll have more luck posting over there.

It’s been covered in a mushroom type mushroom, actually. Check r/mycology.

If you really ..need..it removed. you’ll need to remove the affected dirt it’s pretty healthy for your soil though.

OP has never seen a mushroom before. We need more background here.

Looks like a Lepista…but hard to say without better pics, location, etc

    1. It’s a fungus not a plant
    2. The fungus isn’t hurting your lawn; on the contrary, mushrooms are a sign your lawn is healthy
    3. You can pick mushrooms without any issues, none are toxic to handle (only to ingest). If you are worried about kids or pets ingesting these, feel free to pick them and throw them away with yard waste. However, understand that mushrooms are the fruiting body of the fungus. Picking them won’t get rid of the mycelium from which they grow so they’ll be back the next time your yard gets moist enough and they feel like growing

I can confirm that this is definitely a mushroom type plant. Well actually no, because mushroom is not a plant.

We’ve just had a huge crop of mushrooms appear on our front lawn. We’ve lived here for 3 years and we’ve never had any before.

Their is a fungus among Youz. It’s actually called a fungus among us.

  14. Jaded-Albatross

A large mushroom, the size of a small mushroom

If it looks like a mushroom, and grows like a mushroom, it’s probably a plant that is mushroom-like.

I don’t think these are mushroom type plants at all. The very notion. These, are clearly a leaf type plant, growing of a stem type plant, which appears to be actually growing out of lawn type plant.

Mushrooms are more related to animals than plants

  18. Mushrooms are more closely related to us than plants
