So I haven’t been taking very good care of these. I don’t know what to do and I need help so if anybody has any insight, let me know. I hear everyone say how easy it was and I just stuck them in some dirt and then I tried misting them, and then I tried slightly watering them.

it looks like they are the wrong way round. the broken off part needs soil contact.
If you kill every succulent you are probably either watering too often, or keeping them in wrong type of soil, or both
This is christmas/thanksgiving cactus, right? If so, bury each segment 1/3 of the way into the soil, standing upright. Give them good light, and just make sure the soil is slightly moist, not wet, never dry. They don’t always take.
Alternatively they can also be propped in water. some say it’s the best, personally I’ve had much better luck in soil.
Laying leaves flat on a plate is for other succulents that sprout new plants from the base of the leaf. Christmas/thanksgiving cacti root from the bottom and sprout new growth from the top.

Remove all soil. Put in clean glass jar with 3 drops of water. Leave in a sunny spot. Open a couple of times a week to air it out and check for roots. As soon as you have roots, plant in cactus soil. This works!
