My wife and I bought our house a few years back with this tree in the front yard. Years before that, the roots ripped part way up during a storm.
For the past couple years, more and more bark has been falling off of the tree, which I assume is disease as it keeps starting around points that were cut before we moved in.
We had an arborist come last year and trim some branches to balance the weight. They told me it was a hackberry and that it could fall any time between tomorrow and a couple years from now.
Given the accelerating bark shedding, should this tree come down? We’d hate to lose it but I’m worried that it’ll be on the ground soon anyway.
Note: most of the weight is out toward the street and there is theoretically no danger to my home and the neighbor’s home, but our cars are close enough so that if the whole tree fell, it could possible fall on one
