The Forget-Me-Not Garden Club recently gathered at Sue McGinty’s home to discuss the importance of trees.
During the meeting, McGinty highlighted the functional and emotional benefits of trees, including stress reduction and improved mood, according to a community announcement.

Members shared their favorite trees, with maple being the most popular choice.
The group also explored various uses of trees, from building materials to food sources. McGinty shared interesting facts about 15 different trees, including the Sassafras tree, whose oil was historically used to perfume soaps and flavor medicines.
The club also discussed the history of Arbor Day, which originated in Nebraska and is celebrated in all 50 states and more than 40 countries around the globe. Members participated in a crossword puzzle themed around animals and trees and learned about the ecological importance of dead logs.
The meeting concluded with discussions on fair results, field trips and weather folklore. The next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 27, with Robin Hicks and Diana Dunn hosting.
