I got this basil from the supermarket, I knew it probs wasnt gonna survive, but it grew A LOT! This is growth from the first month or so and it used to be soo healthy and happy, but after i repotted to this pot it doesnt seem happy. I dont know what i do wrong. I water it every 2 days. It gets 8 hours of sunlight and there is a hole in pot. The soil I am using is one I just bought at a store.

Please help I am willing to do anything for my Basil

What type of soil are you using?

Give it a super good soak in water (like a bowl about the same size full of water and let it sit for an hour). It looks like it’s not getting enough moisture into its leaves.

    If that doesn’t work:
The soil surrounding the root ball might be hydrophobic. Meaning it isn’t absorbing water and therefore the roots are trapped in an air essentially. You may need to pop the plant out of its home, break up the root ball and get rid of some of the soil around it. Then repot it back in the terracotta you currently have it in with some new soil around it.

If the leaves are still sad, yellow, or wilty:
You can trim it right back down to just a couple nodes on each stem. You can pull the dead leaves off the base of the trimming and put them in a glass with water and try growing new plants. You need at least the four top leaves to do this.

If there’s no fertilizer in the soil mix you used, you can give it some that is made for veggies. Or there’s lots of natural ones you can feed it too – search online I don’t know of any specific for basil off the top of my head.

    Good luck!!

This happend to me the first time, too. After doing some research I learned that they are usually overcrowded in the store, so I split them into four pots. They did fine for 3 months before I had a thrips infestation.

It might be too late for this particular pot, but luckily, basil isn’t expensive.

First of all, you did amazing already. Basil loves so much to die… When I repot my basil, I usually give more space between the plants, so the roots can spread. It works for me: I bought my basil in June and it’s still thriving

Search for basil and herbs care on Mr Sheffield YouTube channel, it is a good source of information and he guides you every step from store to harvest with explanations.
