A short tour of my Japanese inspired garden in mid August. I point out some of my favorite trees and plants. #japanesegardens #japanesegarden #garden #gardening #flowers #tree #fyp #gardendesign

Welcome to my Japanese inspired garden. This is my favorite part of the garden. I have several plants in here that I really love. This is my dwarf ginko boila called little Pete. I got it this year to replace one that I lost two winters ago and it’s supposed to stay small, so hopefully it will be good being in a container, which is how I have it now. I also have several different types of Japanese maples over here. I’ve chosen different colors and textures and leaf shapes and ones that are weeping versus ones that are upright to get texture into the garden. I have several different water bowls so that bees and birds and other insects can have water and also to reflect the light. I have a few different types of hydrangeas here. I’m experimenting with having them in containers because I have very heavy clay-based soil here. I also have a couple of chameleas. My tea chameleia is not doing very well. The chameleia japonica is quite small, but it’s coming along. I also have various ornamental grasses here, as well as various ferns tucked all over the place to give different textures and colors to the garden. I have some different statues. One of the main parts of this area is the beautiful old apple tree. It’s a Macintosh apple. It has delicious apples. It’s lost half of its branches, though, so we have more light in this part of the Japanese garden than we used to. I have these chimes here to give some music to the area when it’s windy, as well as some bamboo to frame off that area there. When we moved in here 6 years ago, all there was was grass and a hedge and the old apple tree. So, we’ve put in soil in various areas and framed it off. There’s a little walking area here around the apple tree to do some thinking or just relax, have some haores. This is Japanese anemone here. It’s spreading really nicely. It’s just starting to bloom now. We’re going into late August. This is my beautiful Japanese umbrella pine. It’s one of my favorite trees in the garden. I have it in a container too so it doesn’t get too big although they are slow growing. I love the deer scarer fountain. I just got that working this year. And the appearance of Japanese lanterns just starting to turn orange means it must almost be autumn. These ones here are green. This is such a cool plant. The seed is on the inside. You can dry them.
