My swamp milkweed has had these black spots for a while now. I was thinking maybe it had the black spot fungus or ground level ozone damage, but I can't tell.
My other milkweed just started yellowing recently. They still had monarch caterpillars, but I haven't seen them in a while. Could this have maybe killed the caterpillars?

Fall.
as the other commenter said, just normal wear and tear from the season, all of the leaves will soon drop. the last of the monarch caterpillars for this year have already migrated south, which is why you stopped seeing them out on your plants!
My swamp milkweed looks just like yours. I think it’s just switching to winter survival mode, coupled with a couple weeks of drought. Have you been light on rain? It likes to keep its toes a little damp. But ultimately I think it’s just putting its energy to saving resources for winter and spring, which is pretty normal for perennials.

End of season!
Is this your first fall? Plants turn colors and die back before winter
End of season.
Prepare for the winter , they are putting more energy down to the root instead of the foliage
My swamp milkweed is starting to have yellow leaves on the bottom with markings, even new ones I germinated 2 months ago!
It’s Fall!
Mine is gross looking, too. Winter is coming. 😩
Mine also look like yours – hi neighbor!
It’s fall
Senescence.
That’s Common Milkweed, right?
First pic looks like mosaic virus
My swamp milkweed had those same dark spots for awhile too (before all the leaves fell off for autumn). It’s stress from drought. Swamp milkweed doesn’t like to dry out for too long (it can handle a couple days without being watered but anything beyond a couple days will stress it).
Late season uglies lol
Milkweeds wake up late, and go to sleep early.
