Fall is here and that means free to the public gardening classes sponsored by Bedford Area Master Gardener Association (BAMGA) and hosted at Bedford Urban Gardens (BUG)! Mark your calendar for two classes scheduled during the month of October. They will be held from 10:00 am — 11:00 am at the BUG Pavilion. Bring family and friends to take full advantage of fall gardening topics to be covered.
The first fall class will be held on Saturday, October 4. Phyllis Turner, Master Gardener, will lead the program on ‘Pruning 101’. Learn the ins and outs of tools, techniques and timing of pruning your trees, shrubs and other plants. This will help you control size and shape and improve the overall health of your plantings.
On Saturday, October 18, Master Gardener Andrea Wild-Gingeleski will present a session on ‘Growing Your Own Sprouts’. You will take home your own sprouting jar to start a low-cost way of getting nutritious, fresh greens. They are easy to grow in your home. So, this winter try alfalfa, bean or other sprouts in your salads, salads or soups.
Our mission at BUG is fourfold: Increasing access to prepared garden spaces, donating healthy, organic vegetables to underserved households, providing space for educational garden seminars, and providing mentorship to those who may not have the gardening experience necessary for a successful garden.
BUG is located at 406 Jackson St., next to The Lofts Apartments. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and visit our website (bedfordurbangardens.org). For questions, call 540-425-5315 and leave a message, or email BUG at urbangardenbedford@gmail.com. So, mark your calendars to take advantage of BUG’s focus on fall gardening topics. Come join us!
