I got this swampy spot of yard right before the woods, and i’ve wondered if it would be nice place to build a small pond for the birds and deer that pass through my yard. I’ve never built a wildlife pond, or anything like it. What do you guys think? I know i’ll have to put a liner in and somehow firm up the edges of the pond so it doesn’t just fall in, as the ground is relatively soft.

do your research, don’t just wing it

Do you have grey water? You could do a prefilter setup

A pond that can sustain wildlife will need some sort of bubbler or fountain to make the water non-stagnant.

A nice alternative is a rain garden!

My wife did that in our yard in a spot where we tended to have standing water. It’s about 1000 gallons and turned out quite pretty. We are now deafened every night by a cacophony of frogs.

No need for filters or pumps if you have enough plants. Ours has been going for about 2 years with no stagnation issues.
