Planning a landscape is hard for some people – because they get sidetracked by the plants.

Watch this YouTuber (architect, interior designer, feng shui guru) sketching his proposal for a client … notice that he is placing zones, activities, traffic routes, and planning view control first.

He's not picking plants yet, but specifying the role the plants will play in the design.

PLANNING:

  1. Make a measured drawing of your property
  2. List the activities you want to do out there
    1. play area
    2. veggie garden
    3. chicken yard
    4. cooking and entertaining
    5. relaxing in the shade
  3. Assign them logical spots with enough space for each activity
  4. Make paths between the areas

Whatever is left over … and it might not be much … is where you will be planting grasses, shrubs and flowers. (Native or not,

He's in the UK but that design would work anywhere with the right species.
