*Melothria pendula* (creeping cucumber), which are native. They have a strong laxative effect when they turn black.
It is **not** a cucamelon, which is *Melothria scabra*.

Thats cucamelon. They taste like lemon cucumbers. I love them in salad, or as a straight up snack, and next year im going to try pickling them.

A creeping cucumber vine came up as a volunteer on my back fence once; I tried one bite of one fruit and was immediately struck by a profound (but fortunately brief) urge to purge out of both ends. I had never before and have not since eaten anything that inspired such an immediate feeling of Tummy Hurty, and the fruit was not at all at the phase of ripeness that was “supposed” to produce such an effect. 0/10, do not recommend.
