interested in turning this rock area into a garden. in zone 4b and this patch here gets some pretty good sun in the morning / early afternoon and dappled shade / sun afternoon. next to driveway and front of road and would like to make this look like an elevated prairie patch with echinacea, heavy metal panicum virgatum just to name a few. this area is however right under some well established sugar maple trees. would these species work with the tree roots? as mentioned above it gets a good amount of sun. rocks probably have been there since the 90’s?

I suspect with that little sun you will see some floppy echinacea. I’d put some part shade stuff there, myself

Maybe put in some native sedges amongst the echinechea to give them some support. ? I’m on a sedge-kick these days
