Just wanted to post the difference in NEHerp’s Vivarium Substrate V2 versus The BioDude’s Terra Fauna. The first pic that’s very chunky and heterogenous is the NEHerp and the one that looks like mostly peat with some large chunks of wood is BioDude. I mixed them plus a small bag of Josh’s Frog’s Tropical BioBedding, which looked pretty similar to NEHerp’s (I didn’t post the pic of the JF because I dumped it into the same bin, and after spreading it out I didn’t think the picture accurately represented the contents well). Hopefully my little-of-everything approach works well enough for my crestie bioactive build 🙂.

I find a lot of places are mixing peat and soil and calling it abg, some don’t even add tree fern or spagumoss. Or if they do it’s like tiny amounts.
I like the Josh’s frogs mix if I’m not making my own. The NE Herp mix looks solid
I’ve found that Panegea of all places, their ABG is pretty good, and reasonably priced.
Someone needs to make a comparison post with a bunch of different brands. I just want to see how each brand makes their mixes
NEHERP is the GOAT. My plants and isopods go bonkers in their substrate, and they have the best customer service of any company I’ve ever purchased anything from.
