BBC Gardeners’ World presenter Adam Frost has been a familiar face on television for numerous years, charming audiences with his gardening expertise and award-winning Chelsea Flower Show displays. Alongside Monty Don, Adam has become an integral part of the popular show.
The 55 year old’s passion for the outdoors began in his childhood, where he spent considerable time in his grandparents’ greenhouse. In addition to his work on Gardeners’ World, Adam has made appearances on The Alan Titchmarsh Show and The One Show.
Apart from his television career, Adam has achieved significant success, earning seven gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show. However, he has also been coping with a long-term condition that causes widespread pain throughout the body and has shared advice for others dealing with the same illness.
Adam has faced a 20-year struggle with a debilitating illness. He has been living with Fibromyalgia, a chronic condition characterised by widespread pain and tenderness in the muscles and soft tissues throughout the body.
During an appearance on BBC’s Morning Live, Adam spoke with fellow patients suffering from the same condition and recounted his personal experience. He began by saying: “For most of my life, I’ve considered myself pretty fit and healthy, regularly playing sports and, of course, spending lots of time in the garden,” reports the Express.
“But around 20 years ago, I started to experience some unusual symptoms. I started to experience these very odd pains. They started in my neck, back, and shoulders, like this throbbing, and that then just moved through the rest of my body.
“On top of that, I wasn’t sleeping very well. I’d go to work and come home, exhausted. For almost two years, I was sent from pillar to post as doctors struggled to identify what was causing me to be so unwell.”
Despite feeling a sense of relief when he finally received a diagnosis, Adam revealed it took another year of “going on this journey of understanding to eventually getting some sort of treatment.”
He added: “Fibromyalgia is an incurable chronic pain condition affecting around 2.5 million people in the UK.
“It’s often characterised by widespread pain, fatigue, and brain fog, but symptoms are changeable and can sometimes be mistaken for other conditions, which makes it a challenge to diagnose.”
Adam Frost is a renowned British garden designer, best known for his impressive work at the Chelsea Flower Show where he has won seven gold medals, and his co-presenting role on BBC’s Gardener’s World.
Since making his debut at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2007, he has worked on gardening projects for notable clients such as Land’s End, QVC, Honda, Volkswagen and even designed the Homebase garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2013.
Adam is also an author, having released several books including ‘Gardener’s World: How I Garden’, ‘RHS How to Create your Garden: Ideas and Advice for Transforming your Outdoor Space’, ‘RHS The Creative Gardener: Inspiration and Advice to Create the Space You Want’ and ‘Real Gardens: Seven Amazing Chelsea Gold Medal-Winning Designs’.
In addition to his writing, Adam runs his own garden design company, Adam Frost Design, based near his home in Stamford, Lincolnshire.
As for his personal life, Adam is married to Sulina Frost. They first crossed paths in the 1990s when Sulina was working as a manager at John Lewis.
They have four children together – Abi-Jade, Jacob, Amber-Lily, and Oakley.
The couple has faced numerous challenges, including health scares and a significant house move following a reassessment of their lifestyle during lockdown.
In 2022, Adam contracted COVID-19 while Sulina was hospitalised with sepsis. Their 15 year old daughter was also diagnosed with an eating disorder around the same time.

“Her mum was in hospital and she ended up really poorly. She ended up with an eating disorder, like a lot of 15 year olds, she had friends going through it at school. So that took its toll,” he shared.
Adam had formerly resided in an 18th-century farmhouse in Lincolnshire before the family decided to sell up in 2022 following health struggles.
For five years, Adam was known for tending the beautiful garden at Villa Farm, which viewers admired on television. “It was great with the house and the garden” he remarked, but added: “Actually, what we realised was that it was great when everybody was well.”
During a recent appearance on Gardener’s World, Adam confirmed his move, reflecting: “Like so many of us over the last couple of years, I had time to just stop and think. Probably, in reality for the first time since I was about 16 years old – and realised that my life is slightly chaotic.”
Therefore, the decision was made to downsize. “So as a family, we’ve just decided to scale back, so I can spend more time with them – but it does mean I’ve got a smaller garden.”
