The Junction 8 roof garden, accessible at Level 3 of the Bishan mall, is an outdoor space that you will find people simply relaxing and decompressing. It is also where families and kids head to when they need some free fun because it is where the Junction 8 playground can be found.
Junction 8 Playground at the Roof Garden, Level 3
The Junction 8 playground is a fairly simple play spot. There are two pieces of play equipment here.
Stepping out through the doors into the rooftop garden, the first piece of play equipment for kids that you will come across is a set of climbing boulders.

Climbing Boulders at the Roof Garden
This is made up of three pentahedrons that have been juxtaposed side by side to create a climbing structure. The sides of the grey and blue pentahedrons are fitted with climbing hand and foot holds that kids can use to pry themselves up to the next level.
It is more suitable for older kids who are more adventurous and have the upper body strength to lift themselves up.
Just next to the set of climbing boulders is the next piece of playground equipment that makes up the Junction 8 playground.
Wallholla Vertical Playground at Junction 8
Rising vertically at the Bishan Junction 8 roof garden is a Wallholla playground.
This vertical playground was amongst the early ones to be installed in Singapore and is still going strong with kids climbing their way around the ribbon strip inside.
Fun fact: the Wallholla playground was designed by the Dutch company Carve all the way back in 2005. They came up with the concept of a vertical playground when given a task to design a new schoolyard area with a list of requirements including a space to accommodate 60 children at a time at a large soccer field for climbing and play activities.
Another interesting fun fact is that the first Wallholla playground was installed in Singapore in 2016 in Bishan at Block 158, Bishan Street 13. There are still such vertical playgrounds being installed such as the Wallholla vertical playground at Woodlands Spring.
The vertical playground at Junction 8 has an orange ribbon that runs up and down with sections that feature cargo nets for additional challenge for kids.
It even manages to fit in a slide for additional fun for kids.
Mural Wall
Just behind the vertical playground, you can find a mural that adds a pop of colour to the roof garden.
A low hammock swing can be found in front of the colourful mural.
There is also a staircase that leads up to the fourth floor where the Food Junction food court can be found.
