A woman arrested on Saturday morning for allegedly shooting another woman in Miami Gardens is claiming she fired in self-defense.

According to an arrest report, officers responded to the area of Northwest 30th Avenue and Northwest 184th Street shortly before 10 a.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter gunshot detection alert.

A short time later, authorities learned a female had been shot and was found inside a Nissan Altima at Walt Frazer Park at 3201 Northwest 185th Street.

The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Investigators found two spent casings on the front porch of a home at 3001 Northwest 184th Street and detained a possible shooter, identified as 25-year-old Jahniya Imani Meda.

Detectives went to the hospital and were able to speak with the victim, who said she was driving in Miami Gardens and spotted her boyfriend’s vehicle parked at 3001 Northwest 184th Street, so she got out and approached the door, “knowing her boyfriend was inside with another female,” the report said.

She said she knocked on the door and asked her boyfriend to come outside before Meda opened the door, stepped onto the porch and fired two shots while saying “get from my house,” the report said.

The incident was captured by a Ring camera, the report said.

The victim’s boyfriend was seen fleeing in a Mercedes-Benz was was later detained for questioning, the report said.

The boyfriend told investigators he was in the bedroom at Meda’s home when there was a knock at the front door, the report said.

He said Meda went to the door and moments later he heard gunshots.

Meda told investigators she was in her home when a female came to her front door and started banging on the door and telling that she was going to “beat her ass” the report said.

She also said she had recognized the female from a prior incident involving the same boyfriend.

In a statement, Miami Gardens Police said Meda allegedly shot at the victim who had gone to Meda’s house “with the intent to engage in a physical altercation,” police said.

Police said Meda admitted to the shooting, and she was charged with attempted murder.

On Sunday, prosecutors said that the victim was trying to get into Meda’s home. Her defense team argued that she exercised her right to defense.

The judge denied bond and ordered Meda to have no contact with the victim.
