I've only ever grown leafy greens in enclosed spaces. Lesson learned, need a cover for greens. These skeletons were nappa and bok choy. The grass grows crazy fast and I haven't managed to remove all of it. I got this bed in late July. I'm slowly learning the bug names. Could someone tell me what these green guys are?

Cabbage Moth caterpillars. Not to be confused with Cabbage White Butterfly caterpillars. But equally as bastardy.

The answer to this is convince a toad to live in the bed with them

They are sneaky bastard! Netting and BT on backup for when they slip through the defenses.

They are so soft and fuzzy and kinda cute; and then I remember that my lettuce has been decimated and shit on.

They got my horseradish last year. Stripped to the veins until I realised and saw them.

They’re cabbage white butterfly caterpillars over here.

I realise this is possibly anathema to everyone, but this year I used this:

    That sorted it.

I cover with insect netting. It really works!

  7. I just noticed these squirmy little guys munching all over my nasturtium babies … and like a big goof, I yanked all of them out from my beets bed.

Of course, it wasn’t until AFTER I pulled them that I googled and discovered nasturtium are trap plants that are SUPPOSED to attract these stoopid caterpillars. Ugh.

Just spray BT and inter plant with garlic and onions. Works wonders for me, even without the inclusion of BT.
