I recently stumbled upon some social media videos about creating terrariums. I couldn’t stop thinking about how cute it would be to recreate our farm school in a terrarium, so we did just that tonight!
Luckily for me, Lowe’s had a ton of houseplants in the clearance section. We picked 5 that said “good for terrariums” on the tags and ordered a few little resin figurines on Amazon. We had a jar (138 oz) in the garage unused.
I added a layer of leca and activated charcoal, a piece of cheese cloth (it’s all I had), then a houseplant blend soil mix, the plants, some long fiber sphagnum moss, and topped it with some harvested moss (I don’t know what kind) from our backyard.
I tried to build a hill with a creek between, using the cholla log and some blue fire pit glass, but the plants were a lot taller than I anticipated so my hills are kind of lost among everything.
The farm school has chickens, highland cattle, and a creek bed they play in with their “mud boots.” They also planted a school vegetable garden last week, so we incorporated that with the little red wagon.
The plants are: flame violet, moon valley pilea, pink angel fittonia, fluffy ruffle fern, and Belgian waffle plant.
I am super pleased and I hope the school loves it and I hope it is able to survive and thrive
