Stunning gardens, architecture at Untermyer Park in Yonkers NY

Untermyer Park and Gardens in Yonkers is named for Samuel Untermyer, who purchased the land in 1899 and created the gardens in 1916.

A New York City garden is the most beautiful garden you can visit in the state, according to Home and Garden Television.

The home improvement and real estate network named the New York Botanical Garden as the best in New York in their list of top gardens in every state.

“These 50 spots make our heart flutter when we think about their colorful flower beds, inventive landscaping and inspiring art,” HGTV said. “Add them to your garden bucket list today.”

Here’s what to know.

Why did HGTV choose the New York Botanical Garden?

The New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx is HGTV’s pick for the Empire State and has been in existence since 1891, according to the attraction’s website.

“This is essentially an urban plant museum spanning 250 acres, where the environment offers a glimpse of what Manhattan looked like before skyscrapers,” HGTV said about the New York City garden. “The landmark Victorian glasshouse hosts amazing seasonal shows.”

The garden includes a 50-acre, old-growth forest, the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, the LuEsther T. Mertz Library containing 11 million archival items spanning 10 centuries and the William and Lynda Steere Herbarium, which is considered the largest in the Western Hemisphere with 7.8 million plant and fungal specimens, according to the garden’s website.
