i bought my string of hearts a few days ago and noticed this section appears dead and thin. but it’s the longest string with lots of healthy leaves at the bottom. will it survive or end up killing the rest of the string eventually?

The leaves at the bottom are living because of the water they’ve stored. When that runs out they’ll die because they have no other way of getting water from the roots. Cut that part and prop in water, moss or moist soil

  2. That thin section is dead, you might notice the leaves below it shrivelling up soon.

My advice would be to cut it off, propagate it, and then replant it at the top of the pot once it has roots.

I can see there’s new growth coming from above the shrivelled section already (light green), so it’ll be as long as it used to be before you know it.

It’s likely only shrivelled because of mechanical damage, your plant is still healthy
