Mine came out of my grow tent this spring looking awful. I planted them anyway and they started to heal, but not before the 90s came. I got the tiniest heads ever last week. Almost 6 months after I started them π
My favorite roadside farm has side shoots by the 1/4 bushel sometines as they dont sell as well as the giant heads. So I'll buy a couple of 1/4 bushels and steam and vacpack for Winter. It was $10 and $15 for them. The $15 had a few big heads in it that were weird shaped and some folks wont buy oddball fruits and veg
Italian here. If you go to southern Italy markets you find huge broccoli and cauliflower heads like those, but you don't find those in most Italian supermarkets. I guess that those aren't as marketable as small, 1-2 persons sizes, and are therefore perceived as "the norm"
Broccoli has so much wasted potential. Happens all the time with cabbage too, people grow a nice 4-pounder head, snip it off all excited, but there's still like 7 pounds of fan leaves left that never gets eaten. Same with brussel sprouts, cauliflower, artichokes, turnips, radish,
It is a cabbage, same with Brussel sprouts. They were all selectively grown to produce a different form of the same plant. They are genetically the same.
