The hole is only on already dead tissue. I probably wouldn’t treat at all. If you wanted to be extra careful you could do a systemic soil treatment with Imidacloprid. This would target potential borers and aphids.
Your best bet is to probably just water regularly and the tree will deal with it itself. That’s what i would do.

My vote is replace it with a different tree! But I’m a crepe myrtle hater.
