My wife and I noticed a strange trail of little cut pieces of leaves a week ago. It started as a faint trail, but it has gotten more and more pronounced. It starts from our peach tree in the back yard garden and goes at least 70 feet to the front yard. We had seen some giant and hills in the front yard for a while, but we never put two and two together until yesterday. Last night we went out and finally saw them in action. Seems like they come out and start harvesting leaves around 8 or 8:30pm, but just before the sun starts to come up they just drop whatever they are carrying and go underground. It is insane how many little pieces of leaf they leave behind. Makes me wonder how much plant matter they have brought down into their nest.

That’s prettty cool! I have not seen them in such numbers. Looks like an Andy Goldsworthy piece.
Neat! I love watching these ants work. A house in our neighborhood has a a nest but I don’t see them very often anymore. I’m guessing they get hit w whatever people are using to kill the red imported fire ants?
Amazing. For some reason I thought leaf cutters only lived in rainforests.
This is so rad 🍃🐜🍂🐜
These guys defoliated a midsize tree in my front yard by 80-90% (it still looks pretty funny and I’m shocked it didn’t die) and did substantial damage to the next one in less than 36 hours. Until then I thought they were really cool too. :/ The A&M page on managing them is depressing.
You have been blessed by the ant 🥲🙏
