Yes, we put a stick at the beginning and we shouldn’t have. But what do we do now? Do we cut it where it bends and put it back in the ground and hope for the best? Do we leave it hanging like this (not sure we can stand it)? Any advice will be appreciated.

Yes cut it back at the bend. More importantly, stop torturing this guy and give him the lights he’s literally bending over backward to find. Then rotate every watering and this won’t happen again.
Cut it, propagate the cutting. Next time shake the trunk vigorously a few times per week.
Cut and put it closer to the light source so it’s not stretching like this and growing an awfully think trunk
