OZAUKEE COUNTY — The Ozaukee Master Gardeners will host the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Susan Carpenter at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 via. Zoom.
Carpenter is the Native Plant Garden curator and gardener at the UW-Madison’s Arboretum. She will discuss Native Bees of Wisconsin & Citizen Science.
“Native bees and bumblebees are disappearing,” Carpenter said.

She will instruct OMG participants how they can foster native pollinators to maintain healthy ecosystems. The talk will include information about the bumblebee life cycle, some bee ID, tips for doing photo surveys and uploading data to Bumble Bee Watch as a citizen scientist.
Carpenter has worked with students and community volunteers to maintain and monitor a 4-acre garden representing the plant communities of southern Wisconsin. She also leads a conservation project that involves students and the public in documenting and studying native bumble bees, including the endangered rusty-patched bumble bee, Bombus affinis.
