I got this new airplant in the mail a week ago, I soaked it maybe 30-60mins and then let it dry on a towel. I have lightly misted it every few days. I noticed last night that the outer leaves have brown spots, the overall plant still looks good. But what do I need to different to prevent this from getting worse. Pictures were taken after misting it.

Did you soaked it with tap water? Because airplants are sensitive to chlorine.
