Does anyone have one of these and if so, care tips?


Forgive me for calling it a "her", I don't usually call houseplants "him" or "her", but gawd I love her! When I saw her I didn't don't hesitate even though I already have enough houseplants (I say that so much it has almost become meaningless. šŸ˜†

From what I've read she will like to be on a pebble tray because she'll like high humidity. I've been spraying her every day to encourage leaf growth around the top because I hate that blunt chop at the top. šŸ¤® It seems to be working! New leaf growth and no more leaf drop seems to suggest so.

She's in filtered sunlight near an east window.

Should I plant in a deeper pot? Should I let viney roots grow wherever they want?

Any and all hints/help would be appreciated! šŸŒæ

    I also have one but sheā€™s only in water right nowā€¦no soil and doing pretty well! I had fruit flys in my soil when I got her so I took it all out, but I add fertilizer and water and sheā€™s doing well but I know thatā€™s not beneficial long term. Hopefully someone can give more feedback šŸ˜…

    I have one! Mine is a boy, though. Due to his shape. šŸ¤£ I love him so much. I live in the desert by San Diego and he lives on my patio. I pinch the new stuff off around fhe bottom and just let him go.

    Sheā€™s beautiful! I have 3 that I fell in love with. They havenā€™t had much if any growth since I bought them the first of the year. Iā€™ve been thinking of putting them in a deeper pot too. They are getting bright indirect light.

    I have one and she doesnā€™t like to go dry- likes her soil to stay moist. Mine gets indirect light and is doing well.

    I have one! Theyā€™re basically like a mini tree. Well draining soil, lots of bright indirect light and fertilize once a monthā€¦ itā€™s a mini ficus microcarpa šŸ’š

    Ginseng ficus. Mine is in bonsai soil in an ā€œaeratedā€ (I used a soldering iron to put holes in it) nursery pot that sits inside a cement plant pot without drainage holes and I add some water to that reservoir whenever it gets below a cm or so. It sits under a Sansi grow light inside for 3 seasons and outside (slowly transitioning to sunlight) during summer. Lovely little tree.

    I have one that got “lost” behind some of my other houseplants (yes, it’s an addiction, lol!). When I rediscovered it, there weren’t any leaves left, just the trunk and a few twigs sticking out from. I figured I’d just put it outside and see what happens, figuring I’d accidentally killed it. This is it, now:

    I fertilized it once, this summer, after it came back.

    So, not a lot of care is really necessary, IMHO!

    I know that ā€œMandrakeā€. Is harvested in the South, and they make pretty good money for selling it..
    But to me you plant looks like an ā€œIndian Banyan, or ficus micro arepa/ Chinese banyanā€¦
    Itā€™s those enormous trees that you see in Hawaii in parks. With a lot of areal roots very invasive

    I’ve had one for five years and it’s the hardest plant for me! So few leaves not a lot of growth, gets loads of sun etc just can’t make it happy. I pray mine one day looks like this!

    Only repot if rootbound. Let the roots wander itā€™s natural. Keep misting and give her that humidity boost. Sheā€™s thriving!
