Tastes like Watermelon and Kiwi put together. My partner and I just juiced the crap out of a bunch of these! Wear gloves if you decide to grab em! Glochids are no joke

Nice find, make sure you research on how to harvest and prepare.

They are incredible. Grab a leafy branch from a tree and use it like you would a duster over the fruit to remove the microscopic prickles that are irritating. Then harvest and slice, eat as is or make cocktails, etc. common technique used all over Mexico to remove those pesky little prickles.

How many do you need to pick for it to be worth it? Ours are getting to the size where we are getting a couple fruit at a time, but nothing like in the picture.

Lots of cultivars, flavors and quality of growth.

But, yes the good ones are really good. I have had some meh as well.

I would grab a propane torch and give them a quick flash fry with with just to burn off the glochids then peel and eat, most opuntia fruits have a watermelon texture and a unique sweetness.

In Maui, the trees get up to 14 feet tall and you knock them down with a stick making sure you are up wind. When we filled a couple of plastic garbage cans full, we would make gallons of excellent wine out of them.

If you get the tiny quills in your skin, you apply Elmers glue and let it dry and then peel it off
