My office plant is facing north and I can’t figure out if it is too much or not enough water (or something else) that is wrong. All help is appreciated.

How often are you watering? I’m thinking over watering. And the pot isn’t draining well.

For watering, a good rule of thumb is to touch the soil : if it’s still moist wait before watering.
Also I don’t know if this plant is salvageable.

Could be thrips also but the photo isn’t clear enough to see any. But I think it’s likely it’s getting watered too often and standing in a puddle all the time so the roots are rotten.

Does that pot have drainage holes? How often are you watering the little dude?

North facing windows can still get quite a bit or direct sunlight sometimes, just at different times of the day – I just moved and one of my mosteras and some of my pothos got a little sunburnt actually in a North – North-East facing window, some leaves looking similar to what you’re showing. So it could be sunburn, but it could also be root rot – given it’s an office plant watering may not be consistent or could be too much and water could be sitting in the bottom. I saved an office plant before where people kept watering it and wondering why it’s dying and it turned out the bottom of the pot was constantly sitting in water.. Check that and if it’s wet at the bottom let it dry out a bit and start watering again, but from the bottom, not the top by sitting it in a bowl of water for half an hour or so, letting it drip dry then placing back in the decorative pot:) Hope this helps x

Looks like overwatering, undraining soil+pot combination.

Try to repot with bark, coco hair, perlite and some indoor plant soil mix in a well-drained pot. Self-watering pots work well for collecting the extra water at the bottom section of the pot, but don’t use the self-watering hole for watering; just water normally and the pot’s water compartment will work as a drainage compartment for excess water.

It may take some time until she gathers her strength back. Also check for the rotten(black and mushy) roots while repotting and trim.

I see a draining pot stuck in a glazed (non porous) ceramic fancy pot. If that fancy pot has no holes you MUST water it in a sink or outside and let it drain fully before you return it to a fancy pot, and even then you still risk mold and mildew and root rot that will kill all plants. We call these kinds of pots and permanent saucers underneath them “saucers of death” because you’re water boarding roots.

Does your pot have drainage holes? If not you will rot your plant.

  9. Definitely thrips!!! Can see them on the leaves

Looks Like really Bad thrips damage

I suspect thrips, if you have a magnifying glass you can check the plant over.

I have tried pesticide spray but find a combination of diatomaceous earth and isopropyl alcohol do a better job.

overwatering, underwatering, over fertilising, under fertilising, too less humidity, lack of conducive soil

Is it sitting in water? Check for bugs

I’d try propagating what you can to start a new plant
