I haven’t paid yet so I’m considering having them come back out

Ground looks hard. Did you water some before they came out?

If you live in the same 7b where I live (NC), we haven’t gotten rain in weeks. Aeration will not go well if the soil is super dehydrated. Did you give your yard a good soaking a couple days before the service?

You did not water enough beforehand. I let people know they need to do a few deep waterings the week before I come out to aerate. Once I get there I’m going to aerate and you get what you get. It looks to me like they did a thorough job but the ground was too dry to pull big plugs. You need to pay them and then if you want them to come back out, water beforehand and pay for a second aeration.

Definitely take the watering before into your own hands. But don’t be underwhelmed with the depth of commercial service aeration either. I manually do mine (sucks major booty cheeks) and pull 4 inch plugs. I’ve had trugreen come and do it before and the plugs might have approached 2 inches. They do not care

Need to water before. Obviously works better the softer the soil.

I’m NC as well and this is how mine looked. Our soil is so compact and a lot of clay so tough to get deep

This is sufficient enough to pay them, yes

Yeah it was probably hell for the operator of the aerator, that machine was probably bouncing around like crazy with the ground being that hard!

If that’s how you’ve been watering, why do you care about aeration? Get a southern turf like zoysia or Bermuda.

Not a good aeration, the aerator can only do so much, if the ground is hard, it wont aerate goid

  11. They did their job. You need to pay them. Next time you should water your yard before they come out. If the ground is dry and hard then the aerator won’t be able to sink in very far. The soil is so dry and compact the aerator will just skip across the ground. And this is what you get.

Good luck on the next go round.

A core type, commercial aerator should provide about 6-7 holes per square foot. Count them. If you are overseeding, should aerate in two different directions. Most of the new ride on type aerators have settings for tine depth. Lots of times the deepest setting is not the best one to use.

This is why I just let the moles aerate my lawn

Apply humic acid and kelp before you water it

You wasted all that money u spend on “aeration” because it’s not going to make any difference

Please let me know why one aerates a lawn. We just moved into our first home with a lawn and my husband is convinced that this is only a money-making thing and that lawns grow without it. I don’t want to be “that” house in the neighborhood with the crappy lawn but the man is sooooo frugal I wonder if it’s worth the argument. 🙄
