Substrate of mostly volcanic rock it's pretty squishy on the outside layer but the baby layer inside still feels pretty firm I've heard you shouldn't water but I'm getting a little nervous since the outer layer has gotten extremely wrinkly even down the side and has changed colour should I just leave it alone for now?

The outer layer will dry up and fall away, they should be wrinkling. Do not water it.
No water until after it’s split is finished.

Don’t water. It has enough water in the old leaves, to feed the new ones.
