Greetings,

This year we grew ornamental gourds/squash. I was hoping they would be like birdhouse gourds but instead they are predominantly squat mostly white squashes.

Going to try cracking some open to see if they are any good to eat but we have two full wheelbarrows of them so not sure we could finish them all between two people.

Is there anything to do with them besides add to compost? The neighbors have alpacas we could offer them to.

Post them on Facebook Marketplace for $3 each.

If you have a local Farmers Market, you could always sell them there.

If they’re ornamental gourds, they’re likely going to be bitter/toxic. Cucurbitacin isn’t something to mess around with. It can kill animals just as quickly as humans.

Really the best thing to do would be to try to sell them as ornamental at a farm stand, flea market, farmers market, etc. Maybe a local grocery store would buy them for resale. Otherwise, compost.

Make a gourd dipper or a birdhouse?

Ask for offers from vendors at a Farmers Market to take the whole lot. Arrive while they set up a be generous. Tell them to think lowball. After all you were thinking compost. But, this way you get a bit and help a farmer. And, you don’t have to rent a stall and sit there all day.

Depending on where you live. Offer them up to someone who sells in rich areas. Also hotels will buy them for displays
