My dad planted this in the ground many years ago and was quite proud of it. He has since passed and I would like to take as many cuttings from it as possible and move them to pots or even in the ground at my house. I would especially like to get that bent section in the eves to a new pot.

I tried googling the type and am getting many different results from Peru Ian apple cactus to Mexican fence post castus and even a triangle cactus.

Any help in positively identifying and advice on how to propagate would be very much appreciated.

TIA!!!

I think it’s a Cereus peruvianus (also known as a Cereus repandus).

It should be fairly straightforward to take cuttings, you’ll need a sharp knife but in this case I would use a saw (make sure it’s clean and sterilised).

Cut through the stem at where you would like to take a cutting.

Once cut, leave the cuttings to harden over/callous for at least a week.

You can then put them in a very gritty dry soil mix. Don’t water for a while and occasionally give it a light spray of water.

Slowly increase the watering once you’re sure that it has started to produce roots.
(You can check for roots by moving some of the soil mix.)

I hope this helps and good luck.

Cramped! That’s what kind it is.
