The pit has gotten bigger over time. Should I for example fill the pit with dirt and put sod on top? Is there a more effective fix?

id say maybe line with stones to reduce erosion. Lawn gotta drain somewhere.

You could plant something there to help with erosion control. Just about any perennial will do, but a tree with a fibrous root system is ideal. American plum or a walnut species, for example.

Well if you dont have the irrigation and try to fill it in with dirt and grass to remove it making it a slight hump instead of being flat level or else it’ll erode away for as long as it can but if you do this how would the yard fair like they said gotta drain somewhere apparently its all coming ti that one spot somehow so some bushes or something well rooted like other dude said its an easy fix though

That’s called a head cut. Search Bill Zeedyk videos on YT for ways to fix it.
