You need plants, water, and nutrients. Preferably also a means to measure EC and PH, and to adjust PH if needed. Also a light if you are growing indoors.
Masterblend 3 part tomato and vegetable fertilizer and 3 one quart bottles to premix at a ratio of 2lb per gallon, an Apera ph60 or GH indicator strips, EC meter, ph+, ph-, A light and timer. Whatever you might need for HVAC, carbon filter, tent and trellis or just paint the walls in the basement. Also, I don’t like DWC. RDWC with four plants sharing water makes it much easier to keep parameters evened out.

They have several versions of this kit on Amazon. I bought the basic 4 bucket with no reservoir on a lightning deal for $70. I don’t think I could have pieced it together for cheaper. This kit with a reservoir is currently $150 which you can probably DIY cheaper. If you want this I would hold off and wait for them to disconnect it.
Last month lowes and a vevor 4 bucket with resivor everything included for 97.00 which I bought as a first timer
