Several of my house plants (not just the monsteras) have started displaying these brown patches on their leaves over the last week or two. I thought it was root rot, so I went to repot one of the monsteras today but I don’t think I saw any signs of root rot:
- Roots smelled fine
- Nothing exceptionally mushy
- Normal (light) colored roots
I have seen a mushroom in this pot before, so maybe I’ve been overwatering? I water about 1x week, about 500ml per plant.
Any other ideas on what could be wrong?

I hope someone answers you! I have the same thing on one of my leaves and I have no idea what it’s from.
That looks like sunburn to me? Roots look fine.
it doesn’t look like rot, but once a week for watering is a lot for a monstera imo. they like to dry out and have chunky, well draining soil. i often let my soil dry out all the way for monsteras before watering again and they do perfectly fine.
What type of soil do you use?
looks like when i accidentally leave water on the leaves and then the sun rays burn it! nothing too crazy, but definitely annoying
Looks like a sunburn to me
I’ll chime in again with sunburn. Even if you’ve had it in the same spot for months, the sun’s position changes and can become too intense for some plants.
